THE WIP

Now, now. It’s not what you think. I mean, if you read wip and your mind went to an image of a sexy woman cracking a whip, or rough and tumble cowboys… Hey, you say whip and I think lion tamer. No judgment here. But take out the H and we are talking about the latest WORK IN PROGRESS. Yep. Where I sit that is a painfully long conversation. I’ve been playing with this WIP far too long. By my best guess, it’s been four years since the first 30,000 words flew onto the page. Wow. I just said that out loud and a little piece of my confidence took a whipping. (See what I did there?)

But, hey. Good things come to those who wait. At least to the people who don’t mind lines. And GET COZY is full of lines. And words. Like 100,000?? I KNOW. It’s dark and it’s complicated and it’s real and it’s… well. let me climb on the milk crate and adjust my halo light.

GET COZY takes a satirical look at the changing world of publishing, where Jennifer Feingold, a frustrated but fiercely ambitious editor longing for the return of her glory days comes to believe that killing off the competition will pave the way for her debut author, launching his career and reviving her own.

well, I may have lied when I said I would be posting blurbs and teasers from the book here, along with news of its progress, but what I did instead was finish that bad boy and…. then went ahead and wrote another book, working title: BAD FAITH.

2022 was about finishing things, I guess. While 2023 was about starting new things, like a strange poetry collection and revisiting my first literary love: the short story. All the while I was writing essays and articles and learning seven or twelve new things- of course.

What’s that sound? I could have sworn I heard the crack of a whip.

Looking forward to 2024 and some new sounds- like the whoosh of a sent email and the ding of an accepted text- both barely audible over the beating of a happy heart accompanied by the soothing tones of ocean waves.
